8TH OCTOBER 2015 :WORKSHOP BY MODICARE
The workshop was conducted for classes VII and VIII. A workshop was held by Modicare organization in the school premises on 8th and 9th October 2015. The workshop was conducted with classes VII and VIII . The topics discussed were sexual abuse, responsible sexual behaviour, and internet . The students were divided into two groups, boys and girls separately.
The children took part in the workshop enthusiastically. They listened to the speakers with keen interest
and raised many queries related to the topics. The workshop involved group activities viz. case study,
“make the sequence “ and role plays . In the end the students put their questions anonymously in the chits which were answered by the speakers.
8TH OCTOBER 2015 : WORKSHOP ON MASS MEDIA
The workshop on Mass media was conducted for the students of Classes XI and XII by Mr.Rohit Varghese from 98.3 FM famous as Recharge Rohit. He talked about his career as a Radio Jockey with the help of a power point and interacted with the students.
1ST OCTOBER 2015- WORKSHOP BY USA UNIV QUEST
A workshop was conducted by Mr.Arindam Mukherjee of USA UNIV QUEST for the students of Class IX ,X and Classes XI ,XII in two separate sessions.
The first Session was for Classes IX and X the topic was -Rat Race In India –Pitfalls and Smart way out (need of the Hour)-this was an instructive seminar which focused on empowering the students to make an informed career decision based on an enhanced and smarter knowledge of education trends.
And second session was for Classes XI and XII the and topic was –Expanding horizons (opening international career options for Indian students ).The engaging seminar threw light on career options in broader fields of engineering ,medicine ,commerce /Business,Arts and Humanities.
30TH SEPTEMBER 2015: THE COUNSELLOR’S MEET
On 30/9/15, a meeting was held for the counsellors and special educators of the three Schools, at Somerville School, Vasundhara. The following were the main points discussed in the meeting:
- Special cases were discussed in the meeting. The experiences and the suggestions of the other personnel helped gain valuable insights in the case.
- Brainstorming on whether there should be an inclusive education or not for the special children.
- Various Organizations and firms that are providing support to the special needs children.
- The agenda for the next meeting was outlined.
- Topics of the workshop to be held jointly in all the three schools were discussed.
- A feedback form was circulated.
30TH SEPTEMBER 2015: OBEROI CENTRE OF LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
The Oberoi centre of learning and development conducted a workshop for students of Class XI and XII .The resource person was MR.PARMINDER S.BALI
Mr.Bali shared the information with the students regarding a unique opportunity to pursue a career in hospitality by taking the first STEP ( Systematic Training and education Programme) with Oberoi Hotels and Resorts.
The course offers individuals with a passion for hospitality , the opportunity to learn ,develop and commence a long term career with the Oberoi Group.It was an interactive session.A power point presentation was shown to the students.
29TH JULY 2015: WORKSHOP ON CHEMISTRY : STEP BY STEP
A Chemistry workshop was held by various experts of chemistry at Step by Step School .The workshop was attended by Mrs.Anu Sharma along with five students

Career Options for commerce students
Two sessions for commerce students,
First session : XII B, XII C
Second session : XI B, XI C
The session for class XI was conducted by Mr. Ashish Jain who enlightened the class XII students about all the career options for commerce students and the process of applying and getting admission in the colleges. He also inspired and motivated the students to work hard.
The second session was conducted by Mr. Vivek who addressed the Class XI commerce students and spoke on the same topic which was specifically aimed for Class XI students. They also gave special information about getting admission in CBS college of Commerce.
18TH AUGUST- 2015 WORKSHOP FOR SCIENCE STUDENTS OF CLASS XI AND XII

Organisation : Anglo Eastern ship Management
Topic : Career in the Merchant Navy
The Anglo-eastern Ship Management ltd. Hongkong in collaboration with IMU ( Indian Maritime University) conducts a programme whereby students can become Mariners and get a Bachelor’s Degree in Nautical Sciences B.Sc (NS)
The training structure entails 1 year Pre Sea training at the Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy Onboard ships as a Deck cadet for 18 months and then a 4 month stint in college to qualify for and acquire a B.Sc (NS) degree.
The company was willing to conduct their online admission test in the school and the response of the students was very good.
28TH JULY TO 1ST AUGUST, 2015: THE BOOK –WEEK
Book-week was held in Somerville School NOIDA from 28th July to 1st August, 2015. There was a grand book fair conducted by Scholastic India. A huge number of book enthusiasts from classes I to XII visited the book fair and browsed through different kind of books. Along with the book fair there were different workshops for children also. A “Story-telling” session for the children of class I was conducted by well known children’s writer and story teller Ms. Anupa Lal. The small children sailed through the dream world of stories holding her hand. A workshop on “How to Draw a Comic-strip” was conducted by renowned Cartoon artist Mr. Ajit Narayan. Students of classes IV and V participated in this workshop. The award winning children’s author and historian Dr. Devika Rangachari was present as the “Visiting Author”. She interacted with the ‘Book-Club’ members of the school from classes VI-VIII. Dr. Rangachari shared her experiences as a writer with the children. She explained how to observe the surroundings and people and create a story from it. She emphasized on the importance of the perspective of the story teller. She also gave writing tips to the children. The children thoroughly enjoyed the book fair and all the workshops.
5TH JULY 2015 : MUSIC MEET
The Western Music Department Of Somerville School NOIDA attended a Conference at The Delhi School of Music, Chanakyapuri on 5th July 2015. It was organised by Mrs. Anjili Mata who is the Area Coordinator and Academic Head for Trinity College London in India. The Conference highlighted the need for Western Music in Indian Schools and ways to upgrade themselves. The teachers who attended were Ms.Tracy Fernandes, Mr. Vincent Singh and Mr. Mashungam.
21ST MAY 2015- WORKSHOP ON EFFECTIVE TEACHING
RESOURCE PERSON : MR. AMAN KOHLI (NIE)
He initiated the workshop by explaining the significance of “mindset paradigm”, implying thereby that our perspective moulds our methodology. He explained the relationship between stimulus and response, where the teacher needs to understand the situation in order to arrive at a conclusion i.e PSR (Proactive Stimulus Response) planning was another important factor where the teachers needed to follow PDCA – Planning, Development, check, Achievement.
6TH MAY 2015 : WORKSHOP ON ROAD SAFETY AND EMERGENCY SERVICES
Workshop was conducted in two sessions in the senior library :
- 50 students of class IV and V
- 50 students of class VIII
Cine Art Steer to safety campaign initiated by PVR Nest and Michlein India. Conducted by volunteers /content carriers from Road Safety and Emergency services
